Our Story
Located in the heart of The Hague, Sixpence Public House is focused on bringing the Irish Pub and Restaurant into the 21st Century.
Having opened our doors in November 2019 under the name Shelby Public House, we were off with a bang. The reception we received in the press and from our customers was immense. Finally, there was a Traditional pub with plenty of offerings; Beer tables, Whiskey tastings, A fantastic Wine and Bubble’s selection, Private events, Themed party’s, Specialty Cocktails, Unique Food Menu, Classy Interior and of course in the Peaky Blinder’s style. Perfect!
And then on March 14th we closed our doors voluntarily for what we thought would only be 2 or 3 weeks. Little did we know that voluntary action would end up leading to 2 and 1/2 months closed and a complete restructure.
With 10 weeks to put our heads together, we had a lot of time to look at what worked and what could work better. The conclusion was, whilst we loved the Peaky Blinder’s association, and everything that went with it, we couldn’t really call ourselves an Irish Pub.
But what could we name it without changing the style too much? After all, the style is what attracted us.
Enter Sixpence Public House.
Keeping the slight association to Shelby Public House from the Sixpence flat cap, we now had the chance to really go down the Irish Pub route. For one of the owners, being from Dublin, this was an exciting new challenge;
To create the best modern traditional Irish Pub and restaurant in the Netherlands.

By offering a unique cocktail menu that can compete with the best Cocktail bars in the Netherlands.
And of course, by bringing the Traditional Irish Pub into the 21st Century.
